Ask Grandma

Our neighbors are home with their adorable baby girl! I have especially loved watching Matthew interact with her. He delights in touching her (oh so soft!) hands and talking to her in this hilarious falsetto toddler voice :“ooohh you’re sooo pretty….your hands are sooo soft….aaawwww.”

His first description of Magdalyn to my mom went like this: Matthew, in an excited voice, “The Rogers’ baby sister is so pretty! Her name is MAG-da-lyn! And she’s black all over!” Then suddenly, for the first time since we started pouring over photos of Ethiopian children and watching Gotcha Day videos, it occured to him to wonder: “Why is she black, Grandma?” Grandma, without missing a beat, explained: “Babies are like kitties, they come in all different colors!”

I love my boy, and I love my mom!

And... I'm glad he asked Grandma instead of me! Silly me, my answer would have trailed off into melanin...
