Egads. This isn't pretty. Does anyone have a better way of creating a table like this in Blogger?
If not... here is a painful-but-functional chart of referrals as reported in the twice-monthly agency Updates, beginning with the last half of August. It confirms what we have been told, that monthly referrals are "on track," with 2-3 official (accepted) referrals/month in each Infant category. Despite my feeling - shared by others! - that referrals have stalled, the May Update included an exceptionally high number of referrals.
The increasingly longer wait times is apparently the result of the increasing number of families on the Wait Lists, rather than a decline in referral rates. While the number of waiting families has increased 50% since August, the rate of referrals has remained relatively stable for Girls (rolling 4-month average of 4/month), with a significant (almost 100%) increase for Boys (rolling 4-month average jumping from 11 to 20). Note: Because many families are on both the Boy and Girl wait lists, an increase in Boy referrals will have some impact on the wait time for families on the Girl list, as families receive Boy referrals and come off the Girl list.
As we know first-hand, the wait time for referrals is steadily increasing. Date on Wait List : Time to Referral for a healthy infant Girl looks like this:
- July 2009 : 6 months
- August 2009 : 7-8 months
- September 2009 : 8-9+ months (some still waiting)
- October 2009 : 9+ months (all still waiting)
This (over)anlysis does not change a darn thing, but somehow it makes me feel better.

Angela...those are some serious numbers. I know that our official entrance date to the girls list was not posted on the listserv, because we haven't been on there the whole time, but we were "listed" in mid-September, which actually already puts us past 9 months by a few days. Not super important, I know, but since you asked. Thanks for checking on the referrals that far back, it is a little more comforting that things are moving along, there are just more of us to "move along"! That is great news for all of those babes!

That is some serious number crunching. A little depressing being on the bottom half of that list though. Still praying for a miracle though! And hoping you see your sweet girl's face soon!
